The history Besakih Temple began in 8th century, when the Hindu priest named Rsi Markandya led a ceremony of five metals or locally called Panca Datu such as gold, silver, iron, copper and precious stone on the slope of Mount Agung, from that moment he led festival in there and built the temple as main temple in Bali.

Besakih Temple is located in the village called Besakih, Rendang district, Karangasem regency. About 54 km from Denpasar.
